Preceding the workout are several explanatory chapters on the importance of the body-mind connection in yoga, the use of elastic resistance bands (which can be purchased at most sporting goods stores), and proper breathing technique (essential to any yoga practice). Clearly explained through bulleted lists of instructions, the poses with the bands add resistance to strengthen the body beyond what a regular yoga session would accomplish. Wolfe touches on the relaxation portion, but her emphasis is on yoga's physical fitness aspects. Less experienced practitioners could perform these exercises, as there are modifications for those who are less flexible or who otherwise cannot do a pose as described. This might be a cost-effective addition to an existing yoga collection; however, for an introductory yoga book, try Erich Schiffmann's Yoga: The Spirit and Practice of Moving into Stillness.
