Book Synopsis

Basic tips on drawing monster faces, heads, and bodies are followed by pages and pages of grinning, gurgling, gruesome monsters, from chibi-style cutie-pies to one-eyed, drooling ogres. And each one is easy to draw, because Christopher Hart uses just four simple steps, highlighting the new lines in each, to "build" his monsters. Kid-tested and teacher-approved, Xtreme Art: Draw Manga Monsters is fun, entertaining, and even a little (shhh!) educational -- great for car trips, school vacations, or any time the kids have been monstrously good...or just plain monstrous.

Children's Literature

Manga means comics in Japanese. Manga characters are very popular all over the world. Manga monsters are very cute and easy to draw. A four-step process illustrates how to draw the monsters. Many of the characters begin with a chubby shape. Horns and hair are added. Some of the monsters are based on insects, others on exotic animals and dinosaurs. Birds and humans have also inspired manga monsters. The eyes are an important feature of each monster and they are distinctive. The monsters have names like Plumpoon, Queetle and Binktar. Pulvarak is a vicious dog/dinosaur with horns. Brainstormer is a walrus with the top of his head cut open and his brain exposed. Cooboo is a fuzzy little rodent with water buffalo horns. Over twenty-five characters are included in this how-to drawing book. The illustrations are all black and white line drawings to facilitate the process of copying and learning how to draw each specific characters.
