Author Biography: Jeffrey Winters

I have been writing since creating my own satire magazine at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee called, "Snide Magazine." I sold ads and hawked the magazine all over the state and paid back my sole investor. Since that time I have written film reviews for a community San Francisco newspaper and our Mount Shasta paper for over ten years. Recently, I wrote the young adult mythological adventure, Mystic Uncle and the Magical Bridge, which sold in Barnes & Noble nationwide and was picked up by the Disney radio talk show hostess, leading to radio and TV and many school appearances. After that my article and photos about the tiny Kingdom of Bhutan was featured as the Sunday lead in the San Jose Mercury News Travel Magazine. I have recently completed my second novel, Walking through Walls, an adult drama with an uplifting ending. The underlying theme of "second chance" poignantly propels the life of an incarcerated woman who finds the courage to seek and embrace a loving relationship after enduring great hardship. For 5 years I created and directed The Mount Shasta International Film Festival till nomoney, grants etc. closed us down. For great films check out our archives: shastafilmfest.com

Book Synopsis

"Having spent several years as a volunteer in a Federal Correction Facility For Women, I found 'Walking through Walls,' an accurate and fascinating look into the lives of women in prison. Author Jeffrey Winters did an amazing job at portraying the character of a woman who is at a crossroad in her life, the challenges she faces, and an outcome that speaks well of a better life born out of wise choices. Everyone should read this book and learn." -Roxanne Talltree-Douglas

In Walking through Walls we meet the central character Nina who has never recovered from her twin brother's death during Desert Storm. One day after work, she unintentionally kills a robber which lands her in prison. She must leave the comfy oblivion of her everyday life for the claustrophobic gray conformity of prison. There a second chance awaits her, but to take it, she must change. And to do that, she must stay alive.
The gate clangs shut, and her harsh apprenticeship begins: vicious fights, lifesaving tips from her cell mate, an old doctor's guidance. And when her late brother's best friend Stephen begins to visit, long-buried feelings surface. She has the opportunity to emerge from prison as a woman capable of a new life with love.

"Walking Through Walls is a multi layered, fast moving and captivating novel. Winters, an excellent storyteller, weaves crisp dialogue with edge and action, balancing emotional tension with love and unexpected humor. Readers will identify with Nina's inner strength, her fears and her courage as she fights for life and for love." -Esther Schneider, Author
