This handbook provides excellent therapeutic information with a specific analysis of at least one YA novel for each of the issues presented. Featured titles include Paul Zindel's My Darling, My Hamburger for school and family conflicts, S. E. Hinton's The Outsiders for delinquency, Lucy Frank's I Am an Artichoke for eating disorders, and Nancy Garden's Good Moon Rising for gay and lesbian issues. Each chapter also includes an annotated list of related fiction and nonfiction titles. The introductory section is written by writer/therapist Chris Crutcher, and the subsequent chapters are coauthored by therapists and literacy experts.
