Lefever (sociology, Spelman College) chronicles the civil rights activism of the students and faculty of Spelman College, America's oldest black liberal arts college for women. Lefever interweaves his historical narrative with the words of the participants during the events in question and as they reflect upon their experiences from the perspective of today. Admirers of historian and social justice activist Howard Zinn, author of A People's History of the United States, may wish to note that he played a prominent role in many of the events described here.
