Author Biography: Erin Arvedlund

Erin Arvedlund is an investigative journalist who has written for Barron's, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, TheStreet.com, and Portfolio.com. In 2001, she wrote the first skeptical article about Bernard Madoff for a major publication. This is her first book. She is married and lives in Philadelphia.

Book Synopsis

Erin Arvedlund, the financial reporter who questioned the amazing returns of Bernie Madoff's hedge funds way back in 2001, traces the life of the infamous swindler and addresses the tough questions surrounding the collapse of his Ponzi scheme.

The New York Times - Michiko Kakutani

Ms. Arvedlund—who, in a 2001 Barron's article, was among the first to question Mr. Madoff's record publicly—works hard to situate the Madoff mess within the larger framework of hedge-fund mania and the Wall Street recklessness that led to the fiscal cataclysms of 2008. She is interested in the How of It All: how was Mr. Madoff able to scam investors (some of whom belonged to the fiscal and banking elite) for decades and how did he manage to elude detection for so many years?
