Author Biography: Diane R. Gehart

Diane R. Gehart, Ph.D., LMFT, is a Professor at California State University, Northridge, having received her Ph.D. in Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy Specialization in 1997 from St. Mary's, University, San Antonio, Texas. A member of the original AAMFT Core Competencies Task Force, she developed the first comprehensive system for measuring student mastery of the Core Competencies, having integrated competency-based education methods into her classrooms for several years. She has authored several books, including The Complete MFT Core Competencies Assessment System, Theory-Based Treatment Planning for Marriage and Family Therapists (co-authored with Amy Tuttle; Brooks/Cole) and Collaborative Therapy: Relationships and Conversations that Make a Difference (co-edited with Harlene Andreson) as well as numerous academic articles and book chapters and speaks internationally on subjects related to family therapy and training.

Amy R. Tuttle, M.S. is working on a Ph.D. at Loma Linda University. She worked as an educator for two years and received her M.S. in Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy at CSU, Fresno. She works as a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern and teaches part time. Her research interests include clinical processes, marriage and family therapy theories, family interactional processes, diversity issues, and blended families.

Book Synopsis

To be licensed in California, therapists must pass examinations that require a detailed theory-based treatment plan. Practicing therapists Gehart and Tuttle present methods and guidelines towards integrating theory and practice in treatment planning.
