Writer, journalist, and activist, Tarry was born in 1906 in Birmingham, Alabama and published her autobiography in 1955. A second edition was published in 1966 with an afterword written covering the tumultuous years between 1955 and 1965. This new edition includes an introduction (by Nellie Y.
