Author Biography: Michel Lamy

Michel Lamy has spent many years researching the relationship of symbolism, sacred geography, esoteric tradition, and “secret” history to literature. He is the author of books on Joan of Arc, the Templars, and the hidden history of the Basque region. He lives in France.

Book Synopsis

Lamy investigates Jules Verne’s connections to the prominent secret societies of his time--Freemasons, Golden Dawn, Angelic Society, and Rosicrucians--and explains how Verne used his writings to encrypt the secrets and sacred symbolism of these orders. Verne’s work reveals itself to be rich with teachings on esoteric traditions, sacred geography, and the secret history of humanity.

Children's Literature

There is no doubt that Jules Verne was a brilliant man, a visionary with ideas far beyond his time. Over the course of his life, he wrote 80 different works. The stories alone are magnificent, but could there be more? Could the stories hold clues to a deeper mystery? Through different references, objects, and allusions, Lamy dissects Verne's works, showing him to be, if not a member, then a very knowledgeable scholar in the ways of several of the secret/occult societies of his time, including the Free Masons, the Illuminati, and the Rosicrucian. Lamy also explains the basic history and beliefs of each organization. The author takes pains to be meticulous in his descriptions, to ensure understanding. Honestly, I would not classify this as a book for young adults. The author is very intelligent and highly educated; therefore, he writes as if he is lecturing a college course. The subject matter also caters to a very small population. I would not recommend this book for a school library, unless you have a population that is very interested in either the works of Jules Verne or 19th-century secret societies.
