Omar Ali-Shah was born in 1922 and lives in England. As a member of a distinguished family of Sufi teachers descended from the Prophet, he could have remained in an eastern context which was automatically sympathetic to the Sufi Tradition, but he chose to pursue the work begun by his father in bringing this way of thinking to the West. After thirty-five years of effort it can be seen that his work, along with that of the rest of his family, has completely changed the western attitude towards this ancient way of thought. At the age of seventy-five, Omar Ali-Shah continues to be in direct teaching contact with over two thousand students scattered around the world. His other books are Sufisn for Today, Sufism as Therapy, The Course of the Seeker, The Sufi Tradition in the West and translations of Saadi's The Rose Garden (Gulistan) and The Rubaiyyat of Omar Khayaam.
