Library Journal

Previously, Tagliaferri and Isaac Cohen (both affiliated with the Univ. of California, San Francisco), along with Debu Tripathy (medicine, Univ. of Texas, Dallas), discussed alternative treatments for breast cancer in Breast Cancer Beyond Convention. Here, they oversee heavy hitters in the field of women's health to present information on Western, alternative, and complementary medical treatments for the symptoms of menopause. Readers will come across chapters on traditional Chinese medicine, herbal remedies, osteoporosis, incontinence, and yoga that incorporate the latest scientific research without being technical. For example, Tagliaferri, also a licensed acupuncturist, covers hormone replacement therapy that includes an up-to-date discussion of its risks, as determined by recent clinical studies, and its benefits. Endnotes accompany all of the medical information, including the alternative treatments. With a foreword by Dean Ornish and a chapter by Gail Sheehy, this balanced book is a wonderful resource for women seeking an explanation of all their options during menopause. An excellent choice for public and consumer health libraries.-Elizabeth Williams, Washoe Cty. Lib. Syst., Reno, NV Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
