Book Synopsis

In another age, power is balanced among four great nations: Water, Earth, Fire, Air. Leaders of each nation are able to manipulate—bend—their native element. Only one bender, the Avatar, whose spirit is reincarnated through the years, can master all four elements—and is the one who can maintain the world order. When the Avatar disappeared a hundred years ago, the Fire Nation attacked. All hope was lost . . . until the arrival of Aang, a twelve-year-old Airbender, who reveals himself as the new Avatar. And he must now save the world from being dominated by the Fire Nation.

This amazing bind-up collection contains all four of the sacred tales of The Lost Scrolls: Water, Fire, Earth, and Wind. A $19.96 value for just $7.99!

Children's Literature

This collection of books includes all four of the Avatar the Last Airbender storybooks that introduce readers to a world full of people who can manipulate (or "bend") one of the four basic elements—water, earth, fire, and air. To ensure that no single group gains too much power, an Avatar, a being with the power to control all four elements, is reborn every generation to maintain balance. But when the warlike Fire Nation decides to gain dominance by killing the Air Nomads (the tribe where the Avatar was scheduled to be reborn), balance is thrown into chaos. A century later, Water Tribe siblings Katara and Sokka discover Aang—a twelve-year-old Airbender monk frozen in an iceberg—and learn he is the new Avatar who can free their world from the Fire Nation's oppression. Realizing he still has much to learn, Aang travels with Katar and Sokka to the Earth Kingdom, Water Tribes, and Fire Nation to master his Avatar powers and familiarize himself with this strange new world. Each book takes place in a different elemental realm and contains three stories based on episodes of the Nickelodeon animated "Avatar the Last Airbender" series. In between each story, readers learn more about the history and cultural practices of each realm which are heavily influenced by aspects of Asian culture, including Chinese kung fu, Japanese anime, and Hinduism. While aimed at fans of the "Airbender" animated series, the books will likely become more popular with general audiences when M. Night Shyamalan's live action The Last Airbender movie comes out in the summer of 2010. Reviewer: Michael Jung
