Henry James was a master at tracing the social boundaries of the Gilded Age -- between Old and New World, Europe and America, desire and convention, men and women. He brought an invaluably clear-eyed, and critical, sensibility to America's evolving cultural mores.

This edition, limited to 100 copies, reproduces the original printing of Henry James's short story - a variant on Pygmalion and Galatea - which first appeared in the Atlantic Monthly for January 1874. It is set in Blado Italic with Poliphilus capitals, and has a frontispiece by Julia Trevelyan Oman. It was printed letterpress on Wookey Hole handmade paper.
