Children's Literature

Based on the well-known characters created by Margret and H.A. Rey, this book is a companion to the television series teleplay by Raye Lankford. Curious George and his friend, the man in the yellow hat, are off to the lake to watch the boat contest. George is thrilled to see so many different kinds of boats. George promises to keep Bill's boat safe until the contest begins, but he cannot resist the opportunity of filling Bill's boats with toy cars, just like the ferry boats he saw along the river. When he sets Bill's boat off to sail, George is horrified when it sinks. He tries to make a new boat for Bill out of his toys, but that sinks too. George then figures out which of his toys float. He watches the other boats sailing on the lake. He creates a new boat for Bill based on his observations. Along with the story of George's adventure, the text contains simple instructions on how to make a paper boat and a "float or sink" experiment. Reviewer: Carol Ann Lloyd-Stanger
