Book Synopsis

In this all-new graphic novel, George Beard and Harold Hutchins present the sensational saga of two silly caveboys named Ook and Gluk. Ook and Gluk have a pretty awesome life growing up together in Caveland, Ohio, in 500,001 BC—even though they’re always getting in trouble with their nasty leader, Big Chief Goppernopper. But Ook and Gluk’s idyllic life takes a turn for the terrible when an evil corporation from the future invades their quiet, prehistoric town. When Ook, Gluk, and their little dinosaur pal, Lily, are pulled through a time portal to the year 2222 AD, they discover that the world of the future is even worse than the devastated one they came from. Fortunately, they find a friend in Master Wong, a martial arts instructor who trains them in the ways of kung fu, so that they may one day return home and make things right again. And, like the other Captain Underpants books, The Adventures of Ook and Gluk, Kung-Fu Cavemen from the Future features the world’s cheesiest animation technology, “Flip-O-Rama,” in every chapter.

Children's Literature

From the creator of Captain Underpants comes this hilarious and gross story of Ook and Gluk, two cave boy pranksters who love showing up Big Chief Goppernopper by building skateboards just as the chief invents the wheel, or firing their canon just as Goppernopper claims he has discovered fire. But when Goppernopper gets a visit from his time-traveling descendant J.P. Goppernoppper, he decides to use his relative's advanced technology to plunder his entire time period and show all of Caveland who is boss. Now it is up to Ook and Gluk (and their pet dinosaur Lily) to travel forward into the future, learn kung fu from martial arts teacher Master Wong, and return to their own time to take down the Goppernoppers! It is a silly, irrelevant story credited to George Beard and Harold Hutchins, the boy cartoonists from the "Captain Underpants" series that is full of typical Pilkey-sight-gags—including intentionally misspelled words in every word balloon, "flip-o-rama" animation pages that show dinosaurs throwing up on bad guys, and plenty of gratuitous cartoon-style violence. Fans of Captain Underpants will love it (just do not expect it to teach kids any lessons about good spelling). Reviewer: Michael Jung
