Book Synopsis

Romance Is in the Stars in the New YA Series—Star Crossed!

Children's Literature

Logan McRae is off to summer camp—but this is not the typical canoeing and arts and crafts type of camp. She has won a coveted spot in a writer's camp for aspiring high school journalists, taught by acclaimed author Henry Jaffa. Using a mysterious book written by her grandmother and her newfound interest in astrology, Logan hopes to win a mentorship with Jaffa, who is known for pursuing unusual topics. Her plan quickly falls apart however, when Jaffa switches the campers' topics, and she is now assigned to write about local folk singer Sean Baylor's untimely death. To further complicate matters, camp hottie Jeremy Novack, who otherwise would be all sorts of distracting, insists on writing about Baylor too, forcing Logan to compete with him when she would rather flirt. Throw in ghost sightings at local hangouts, mean girl nastiness, and undeniable chemistry between Logan and Jeremy, and this summer camp is turning out to be more dramatic than Logan could have imagined. Logan relies on her abilities to read astrological signs not only to make sense of the people and situations around her, but also to solve a decades-old mystery. The combination of first-person narrative and journal entries immediately pulls readers into Logan's world. Although the astrological bent occasionally comes off as overly dramatic, Hill deftly portrays teens' desire to understand their place in a confusing world through a balance of the mystery of astrology and a feisty heroine's determination to make her own rules.
