These women solve their mysteries in between brightening their lipstick, pining after the men in their lives, and serving cocktails. Add in a sinister Soviet police commissioner and a cover-up by the "Reds," and you have tales that show their age. Reader Jan Maxwell can't break through stock characters and plot to make the stories come alive, but Clark's many fans may be interested, so demand will warrant purchase.
