John Hart was born and raised in North Carolina. For a time he practiced criminal defense law, but left his practice to write The King of Lies and work for a major Wall Street firm. John used to do foolish things, like fly helicopters and sail small boats across large oceans. Now, with two young daughters and a wife whom he loves, he writes books, which is harder but safer. John still makes his home in North Carolina.
Presenting personal stories and detailed political analysis, this book examines the Australian government's innovative immigration program for same sex couples. Covering the period from 1980 to 2000, the book considers immediate and long-term implications of the policy, with attention to the motivations underlying it. The challenges of implementing the policy and the emotional toll of immigration on gay and lesbian couples are also considered. Hart teaches social work and social policy at Thammasat University in Bangkok. There is no index. Annotation c. Book News, Inc.,Portland, OR
