Book Synopsis

Here is the source for readers who want to learn more about the fastest-growing outdoor winter sport—Snowboarding!

This book helps beginners get started and veterans get better. Snowboarding includes advice on selecting the right board and accessories, in-depth explanations of key snowboarding skills, safety tips, and detailed descriptions of 20 of the world's best snowboarding resorts—from authors who have been there.

The book features clear and accurate instruction and beautiful full-color photos and illustrations throughout for demonstrating proper technique. Less-experienced riders will discover tips for waxing and storing boards and sharpening their edges, along with advice for falling safely and riding through soft snow. More advanced participants will learn how to get started in freestyle, racing, and riding on ungroomed trails. And everyone will appreciate the hints on handling crowds and finding the best snow.

Snowboarders looking for places to try their skill will be pleased to read about 20 of the finest snowboarding destinations in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The descriptions of each resort include

• vertical drop,
- summit elevation,
- number of lifts,
- size of the area,
- resort access,
- where to write for information, and
- snowmaking capabilities.

Readers will also find a complete fitness program to help them prepare for their time on the slopes, along with practical advice for coping with high altitudes. There is even a glossary of snowboard-speak to help readers master the lingo of this rapidly evolving sport.

Like all the books in the Outdoor Pursuits Series, Snowboarding emphasizes safety, environmental responsibility, and—most of all—the fun of outdoor activity!
