Children's Literature

Disgusting, awesome, unbelievable, grotesque, gruesome, and scary are six ways to describe the material covered in this book. Boys will probably enjoy the gory and freaky material covered. Different aspects of life and facts in history are covered from many areas of the world. There are a variety of topics presented in this unusual book including cars, witchcraft, twins, astronomy, cats, extrasensory perception, ghosts, and predictions. There is a lot of information, which can sometimes be overwhelming. There does not appear to be a pattern to the way each page is laid out. The eye goes everywhere. Each page inundates a person with facts, photos, and illustrations. Midway through the book, there is a collection of real-life, creepy experiences and stories incorporating color photographs. This section of the book catches the eye due to the glossy pages and vibrant colors. Potentially, this book could be placed in a history, geography, or social studies class. This will most likely be a popular book in the school library as word spreads about its content and pictures. There is a table of contents, a multiple choice question on each page, a page of brain busters, a bonus question, a pop quiz, an answer key, and a Ripley's Scorecard. Reviewer: Cheryl Williams Chang
