Book Synopsis

Filled with four hundred questions and answers about core subjects, Quiz Whiz is the perfect book for inquisitive young children. The book is structured so that readers can try the quizzes first before flipping to the quick-answer section at the back. Or they can turn the pages and hunt for the answers in the illustrations and text that follow every quiz. Each fact-packed chapter ends with a page of record-breaking information.

Children's Literature

Why are jungles being cut down? How do heavy planes get up in the air? How long did it take to embalm a mummy? Children will find the answers to these and more than 400 other questions in this cross between an encyclopedia and a quiz game. Teachers and parents will find that this is both an introduction to the use of reference material for early elementary readers and a tool for arousing and satisfying curious young minds. More than 60 topics related to animals, people or transportation are included. Each topic is presented in a full-color two-page spread. The text is large with ample white space and plenty of graphics to make this volume easily accessible for new readers. The illustrations, which occupy more than half of each page, are clearly labeled. Readers are challenged to solve eight problems, including questions and scrambled words for each topic. Labels throughout the text help them to identify the sources for the answers. Additionally, the answers are provided at the end of the book, color coded by topic area. Reviewer: Leigh Geiger, Ph.D.
