From the proceedings of the August 1996 symposium come 15 contributions on South Africa's transition from apartheid and the impact of this change on the region and its individual countries. South African issues explored include patterns of inequality in the labor market and trade and industrial policy. Six regional studies discuss integration and the cereal trade, the role of micro and small enterprises, possibilities for monetary integration, the effects of structural adjustment programs, and trade integration.
