Book Synopsis

From the USA Today bestselling author of All The Wrong Moves

When military gadget girl USAF Lieutenant Samantha Spade tests the latest experimental goggles, she spots a sniper aiming for Sergeant Diane Roth. The assailant is taken out-but the high-level investigation is just beginning.

VOYA

Air Force Lt. Sam, as in Samantha, Spade, is head of FST-3 (Future Systems Test Cadre), a Ft. Bliss team that specializes in testing zippy new military equipment for possible inclusion in the country's arsenal of weaponry and gadgets. She's young (20-something), mouthy, brave, in love with Border Patrol cop Jeff ("Mitch") Mitchell, and likes to walk the thin line between military discipline and risky derring-do. In the second entry in the Samantha Spade mystery series, Sam has taken some high-tech glasses that can see around corners for an unauthorized test drive. Sam is able to shout out a warning when she sees a sniper about to take out Army Sgt. Diane Roth, whose own quick action flattens the sniper under her SUV. The plot quickly advances when it turns out that the sniper and Sgt. Roth had a romantic relationship while serving together in Afghanistan. As the investigation heats up, Spade is troubled by the attachment that Diane's young children are developing for Mitch, and by the bigger and bigger holes developing in Diane's story about the sniper and their tour in Afghanistan. This is a pleasant enough series for those who like edgy, somewhat self-centered, strong women, but there's not much appeal here for the average teen reader. Reviewer: Beth Anderson
