The nativity story is told to explain why we celebrate Christmas. "Today we give presents to honor Jesus' birthday." When the angel came to Mary, she was afraid, but also brave and trusting. Joseph wondered if he would be a good father, but the angel told him he would be and to name the child Jesus. The simple colored pictures follow the story. The angels wear short tunics with sandals. Shepherds appear at the manger followed by the Wise Men. Pronunciation helps are given: "In the land of Galilee (say: GAL-ill-ee), there was a town called Nazareth (say: Na-ZUH-reth)."
