In 1999, shortly after he retired from a decade at the Public Record Office in Northern Ireland, historian Malcomson set about compiling and publishing a compendium-calender of the Clements (1705-77) papers, which were divided between two archives and had not been cataloged. Not surprisingly, the effort spun off a biography of the treasury official, politician, Dublin developer, amateur architect, failed banker, leader of fashion, and one of the richest men in Ireland during his time. A member of the Anglo-Irish gentry, he died still a commoner despite his achievements, but his son was named earl of Leitrim. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
