Book Synopsis

Professional mediator Phillips presents and argument for the use of mediation in business settings. She criticizes litigation as an unnecessarily confrontational way to attempt to settle disputes and describes how mediation can lead to both parties feeling satisfied with outcomes. After describing the broad processes of mediation, she discusses how to choose a good mediator and looks at the role of mediation in a variety of arenas, including sexual harassment cases, union contract negotiations, and conflicts between government and civil society.
