Book Synopsis

The Little Animal Encyclopedia is the perfect introduction to wild and domestic animals for young children. Fact boxes and captions provide older children with additional detail. The many images of children interacting with animals make this an exceptionally child-friendly book.

Children's Literature

Young children are fascinated by animals, particularly the strangest and most exotic animals. This is a handy guide to 150 wild and domestic animals and scientific terms associated with animals. Its compact size(8 x 6) makes it perfect for smaller hands, and the photographs and illustrations included on each page give a visual explanation to accompany the text. Fact boxes and cross-references are also found on many pages. A brief glossary and index are included at the end. While the descriptions do not go into great detail, they provide just enough information to satisfy a quick craving. Of note are the many pictures that show children interacting with the animals. 2001, Kingfisher, $11.95. Ages 5 to 10. Reviewer: Carol Lynch
