Author Biography: Al Desetta

Al Desetta, M.A., is an editor at Youth Communication, a New York-based nonprofit organization that teaches writing, journalism, and leadership skills to inner-city teens.

Sherrie Gammage, Ed.D., senior program associate with Educators for Social Responsibility, was the site coordinator for the Resolving Conflict Creatively Program in New Orleans for six years. As an educator committed to anti-bias education, she works with local, regional, and national groups to create inclusive, just, and respectful learning environments in schools and community organizations. In 1999, as an ESR consultant, she facilitated a series of workshops in Tel Aviv, Israel, to teach conflict resolution to Israeli, Palestinian, and Arab educators and students. Sherrie is a member of the adjunct faculty at the Lesley University Graduate School of Education, in both the Peaceable Schools and Literacy in Education programs. A former foster parent, she currently lives in New Orleans.

Educators for Social Responsibility (ESR) is a national nonprofit organization whose mission is to make teaching social responsibility a core practice in education so that young people develop the convictions and skills to shape a safe, sustainable, democratic, and just world.
