Book Synopsis

By presenting a 'continuum' approach, Jesus From Judaism to Christianity takes the important step in historical Jesus study of systematically seeking Jesus' place in the Judaism-Christianity continuum, thus giving due attention to the interdependence of various historical phenomena. The so-called 'Third Quest' for the historical Jesus has characteristically focused upon the attempt to locate Jesus within first-century Judaism. Comparatively less emphasis has been given to the question of how the contextually plausible picture of Jesus can be related to the reception history of Jesus in early Christianity. Through integration of the Jewish context, Jesus' teaching and Christian reception history, Jesus From Judaism to Christianity not only portrays Jesus within his Jewish environment but also asks how this Jesus can elucidate the perspectives of fledgling Christianity.
