A peripatetic scholar of history, literature, and Jewish studies, Meilicke investigates American poet Rothenberg's (b. 1931) reappropriation and transformation of Jewish tradition. Placing his poetry in the context of American Judaism, American poetry, and the subcategory America-Jewish poetry, she argues that he attempts to create a link with the Jewish past, that his association with the avant-garde affects his reappropriation of Jewish tradition.
