Doody Review Services

Reviewer:Martha J. Greenberg, PhD, RN(Pace University)
Description:This is a basic small book on homeopathy written for nurses at a simplistic level.
Purpose:The author introduces nurses to the principles and tenets of homeopathy so that they can understand its concepts if used by their patients. The book addresses basic principles at a very basic level.
Audience:While purportedly geared towards nurses, the book is so basic it is also appropriate for lay people. The author is a registered nurse, naturopathic physician, and adjunct faculty at Bastyr University.
Features:In addition to a brief history of homeopathy and Samuel Hahnemann, principles such as vital force, miasm, cure, similars, remedy, and minimum dose are discussed. Information on Materia Medica, taking a case history, and patient case studies is presented. A short discussion on Internet resources along with a glossary of terms is well done.
Assessment:Kurz's Imagine Homeopathy (Thieme, 2005) surpasses this book and is a better investment for nurses.
