Book Synopsis

Christmas at Henry and Mudge's house means candles, carols, and cookies, and best of all, a visit from the whole family. Everyone from Great-Grandpa Bill to Cousin Annie and her bunny, Snowball, join them for the Christmas-morning breakfast spectacular. Between delicious pancake smells wafting through the halls and presents galore waiting to be opened, this just might be the best Christmas ever. But soon Henry learns that his most special present of all is one he has had all along...a gift that's far too big to fit in his stocking!

Dr. Judy Rowen - Children's Literature

Henry and his big dog, Mudge, love Christmas. In the three chapters of this early reader, they help bake Christmas cookies, go caroling, and open presents. The whole family gathers for a special Christmas breakfast. As in all of the preceding Henry and Mudge books, Henry's family seems much more realistic than many depicted in children's books. Henry's room is a bit messy, Mudge drools on the floor and helps out baking cookies by licking up everything that spills. Since the family seems more real, the love and joy they share in this Christmas tale is that much more heart-warming. Henry and Mudge fans will delight in this new addition to the series, which was first launched in 1987. A "Ready-to-Read" level 2 book. 2004, Simon & Schuster, Ages 4 to 8.
