Author Biography: Avery Brooke

Book Synopsis

Avery Brooke presents an introduction to healing prayer for mainline congregations interested in learning more about healing, particularly in the context of parish life. She tells the story of gradually bringing healing prayer into her own life and that of her church, Saint Luke's Episcopal Parish in Darien, Connecticut, addressing some of the theological, spiritual, and practical aspects of establishing a ministry of healing in a mainline parish.

This highly readable book would be ideal for individuals or study groups desiring to learn more about healing in their congregation. Her chapters discussing the history of healing and healing as part of the "landscape of prayer" provide a solid foundation from which to start a healing ministry. At a practical level, Brooke outlines steps for designing a healing service in the context of the parish eucharist and provides prayers, litanies, and suggestions for further reading.
