It is intended to be a practical book, organized in a disease specific manner. In the interest of brevity and practicality, older medications that are not in clinical use have been excluded.
Audience:This book is useful not only for psychiatrists, but also for primary care providers and other mental health care professionals. It is authored by four clinical instructors in psychiatry at three different institutions.
Features:This book is composed of 9 chapters, including a Disease-Specific Table of Contents. Chapter 1 is a review of the mainstay principles of psychotropic medication prescriptions. Assessment:This is an excellent handbook for psychotropic medication use with disease-specific recommendations for patients with mental disorders. The high-quality glossy paper prevents tearing. I have been using this guide in my year-long, full-time psychiatry continuity clinic and it has been quite helpful in deciding what treatment protocol to use in many complicated situations. This is an excellent and amazingly helpful handbook for use in clinical practice that incorporates practical and evidence-based medicine.
