Book Synopsis

Designed for quick reference in the operating room or rapid review for board exams, this compact, portable handbook presents the most critical clinical information from the newly updated Fourth Edition of Pharmacology and Physiology in Anesthetic Practice. The handbook is written in easy-to-scan outline format, with more than 250 tables to summarize key points and dosages for use in the operating room. The 60 chapters of the handbook correspond to the chapters in the textbook. so readers can easily refer back to the textbook for more detailed information. A separate drug index is included.

Richard I. Cook

Stoelting's Pharmacology and Physiology In Anesthetic Practice is a standard reference text used by residents and practitioners. This new handbook is a companion volume that condenses much of the textbook. The purpose is to provide a compact reference to significant peri- and intra-operative pharmacology and physiology. The handbook's strengths and weaknesses parallel those of the larger text. Its size and content are directed toward the trainee population, and the success of the larger textbook insures the success of this volume. The organization of the handbook is by drug class and organ system. This puts relevant alternative drugs close together, which should help trainees consider alternatives and contrast side-effects. There are minor additions and deletions but the majority of the book parallels the larger text. Undoubtedly the book will be popular with trainees, and with justification.
