A collector since childhood, Gene Florence's hobby of buying and selling glassware turned into a full-time career. Cathy Florence, graduated with honors and a coveted voice award from high school, attended Georgetown College where she obtained a French major and an English minor, then married her middle-school sweetheart Gene Florence. In the mid-80s she authored a book on collecting quilts, harking back to skills taught her by her grandmothers; and she has since co-authored many books on glass with husband Gene.

After many years of research, Florence has compiled an extraordinary book to help identify the hundreds of glass candlestick patterns made during the Depression era. Companies and patterns are listed alphabetically within the major sections which are divided by color. More than 500 different candlesticks are shown in full-color photographs.
