Author Biography: V. S. Meszaros

Valerie and Susan Meszaros have long been enthusiasts of the Old West, its history, and traditions. The spectacular scenery and grueling Rocky Mountain trails they've known inspire them to write. Presently residing in Ohio, they have also taken a deep interest'in the frontier history and history of the Ohio River Valley in particular.

Ghosts of Timber Wolf is V.S. Meszaros' third book for AVALON. Lone Survivor and Dead Man's Money is also available.

Book Synopsis

Dave Merrill, a two-fisted ranger out of Fort Pitt lived by a tough code. Young, reckless, and brimming with hell, he just naturally jumps in to save the pretty widow, Angie Wright, from a brutal Shawnee war party.' He deliberately leads them away, using himself as bait.

Dave is caught, but not without a desperate chase and a bitter fight. He is taken up to Timber Wolf Pass, home of the vengeful Shawnee ancestors. No white man had ever come down alive from those ghostly heights.

Even if Dave manages to escape the sacrificial stone and blood-hungry warriors, the lawless Tuttles will be waiting for him. They have a score to settle with Dave. It involves killing him!

With everyone wanting a piece of Dave Merrill, will there be anything left of him for Angie Wright?

Publishers Weekly

This lightweight frontier tale by sisterly writing team Meszaros is a sappy melodrama loaded down with overblown dialogue, damsels in distress, wild Indians, ornery bullies, miraculous escapes, and a cameo appearance by Daniel Boone. Presumably in early 19th-century Kentucky, the Shawnee Indians are on the warpath and claim jumpers are stealing farmers' land. Here, Dave Merrill boasts of his exploits as an Indian fighter but must be tricked by his pal into courting a pretty widow, Angela Wright. While visiting Angela, Dave saves her from an Indian raiding party but is himself captured, tortured, and set to be sacrificed. An escape, ambushes, Indian fights, fistfights, chases, convenient getaways, and some chaste kisses fill out the thin plot, but the action alone can't lift this corny story from the dregs of mediocrity.
