Book Synopsis

A.P. Hill, "Little Powell," Lee's forgotten general, was one of the ablest and most combative soldiers of the South. He graduated from West Point in 1847, saw service in the Mexican War, opted for the Confederacy after Secession.

Hill was fearless, always in the thick of it. His Light Division, so called for its speed of movement, was a perfect instrument for his abilities--quick, incisive, severe. He fought at Bull Run, Williamsburg, Harper's Ferry, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg and The Wilderness. But his luck ran out at Petersburg where he was killed on the front lines on April 2, 1865.

"Based on a cache of Hill's papers only recently discovered, this excellent biography reveals a man of extraordinary energy and courage. Highly recommended." (B-O-T Editorial Review Board)
