Book Synopsis

Rock out with a zombie in the next spook-tacular episode of Scream Street. Bwah-ha-ha!

Deadstock, the world’s greatest zombie rock festival, is coming to Scream Street! Too bad Sir Otto Sneer is not in the mood for dancing—and when he banishes the concert’s headliners, the fleshmetal band Brain Drain, to the evil Underlands, he causes a riot. Now if Luke and his pals want to restore peace to the neighborhood (and find the fourth relic they seek), they have no choice but to follow the band . . . into the darkest depths of the earth.

Children's Literature

Several weeks ago, ten-year-old werewolf Luke Watson and his parents were kidnapped by the Government Housing of Unusual Lifeforms (G.H.O.U.L.) and taken to Scream Street, abode of vampires, mummies, and other monsters. Luke has made friends with the neighbors, but his normal parents are terrified—almost to death. Luke's only hope of getting them out is to find six ancient relics hidden throughout the neighborhood. He and his friends already have collected the vampire's fang, witch's blood, and mummy's heart; now they must find the flesh of a zombie named Vein before the evil Sir Otto does. The only hitch? Vein is the lead singer of the popular zombie band "Brain Drain." Not only has it given him a serious case of celebrity snobbery, but also Sir Otto has put a spell on the entire band, banishing them to the Underlands, a place even Scream Street residents find terrifying. Unless Luke and his friends can rescue them, the Watsons' hope of ever leaving Scream Street may just go up in smoke. Donbavand creates a fantastical, Tim Burton-worthy world peopled with engaging characters and deliciously evil villains. As with the other books in the series, this story is at times a bit mature, including a beer-drinking zombie and plenty of pus and ooze, but its young, fresh humor balances out otherwise adult material. Young readers also will be excited about the included "Scream Street" trading cards. Reviewer: Cara Chancellor
