Purpose:The purpose is to provide a concise review of material appropriate for the American Academy of Family Physician's Board Exam. Passing this exam is a measure of a physician's competence and level of skill and maintenance of those skills. By presenting the information in a well organized and easy to follow manner, the objectives are effectively met.
Audience:The book is intended for second and third year residents as they review for their board exam in family medicine. It also would serve as an excellent review for practicing physicians seeking recertification, as well as for interns in any specialty preparing for step 3.
Features:The book is filled with useful facts that tend to show up on exams, organized in an extended outline format, with clinical scenarios to highlight where the information could fit into clinical practice. The information is presented very clearly and succinctly, a boon for users, given its purpose. It is not, nor is it intended to be, a comprehensive reference appropriate for day to day "clinical pearls.
Assessment:This review fills a niche for residents, students, or practicing physicians who are seeking an accessible fact-based source to remind them of what they have learned in the past.
