Book Synopsis

When you are researching rabbits, this first-ever, full-color pocket guidebook to all kinds of rabbits will be a valuable resource in choosing the perfect rabbit.

This book will help guide you through the maze of rabbits and arm you with information on all of the 47 breeds recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association, as well as provide you with information on their shapes, sizes, colors, fur varieties, and more. In addition, there is a basic history of rabbits; insights on bunny behavior; coverage of pregnancy, kindling, and raising kits; and information about bunny behaviors and tips for showing rabbits.

Whether you are just starting out or already have years of experience, this guide puts a wealth of information at your fingertips, so that you can quickly identify a rabbit’s breed wherever you happen to be; whether you’re wandering about a country fair, attending a rabbit show, or shopping at a pet shop.

Samantha Johnson received her first rabbit at age eleven and has been a rabbit owner and enthusiast ever since. She lives on a farm in northeastern Wisconsin.

Library Journal

Johnson has been a rabbit owner and enthusiast most of her life, and her book is far more than a guide to keeping rabbits as pets. It provides an insight into the world of rabbit shows, breeding, and bunny behavior and even offers a brief history of rabbits. There are 47 different breeds of rabbits recognized by the American Rabbit Breeders Association, and there is an entry devoted to each breed, which details basic characteristics and includes color photos. Like dogs and cats, rabbits are exhibited at shows across the country, with the show season culminating in an annual national convention. While a search of Amazon.com reveals several titles on raising rabbits, this book is unique because of its thorough explanation of rabbit classification and showing. It is up to date and includes the newest recognized breed as well as three new breeds that are going through the process of becoming sanctioned. Practical and well organized, this concise volume should be essential reading for anyone interested in raising domestic rabbits. A worthwhile purchase for all public libraries.-Deborah Emerson, Rochester Regional Lib. Council, Fairport, NY
