Alex J. Zautra is Foundation Professor of Clinical and Health Psychology at Arizona State University. He has dedicated his career to the study of resilience. His current research is funded by grants from the National Institute on Aging, the National Institute of Arthritis, Musculoskeletal, and Skin Diseases, and the Arthritis Foundation.

Zautra (clinical and health psychology, Arizona State U.) has written an expansive argument on the relation of the emotional states and stress. Definitions of emotions and stress and an overview of scholarly research form the introduction. Much of the book is devoted to aspects of a dynamic model of emotion developed by Zautra, with attention to the way stress influences the experience of emotion, the influences of positive emotions on mental and physical health, and definitions of optimal emotional health.
