Author Biography: Maurice Sceve

Maurice Scève (c. 1500-c. 1564) was at the center of the so-called Lyons school of poets - the first to bring the influence of the Italian literary renaissance into France. In the musicality and erudition of his work, Sceve forms the link between the schools of Marot and the Pléiade in the history of French poetry. Richard Sieburth's translations include Friedrich Holderlin's Hymns and Fragments, Walter Benjamin's Moscow Diary, Gerard de Nerval's Selected Writings, and Henri Michaux's Emergences/Resurgences. His English edition of the Nerval won the 2000 PEN Book-of-the-Month-Club Translation Prize.
