Children's Literature

Kirsty and her friend Rachel are spending their vacation by playing extras in a music video. The girls are also helping the Music Fairies find their missing instruments. When the instruments that are in the music video do not work, Kirsty and Rachel realize that it is because of the stolen instruments. When the girls get into costume for the video, they meet Danni the Drum Fairy. Danni needs her drums. As the music video rehearsal begins, Kirsty and Rachel notice the drummer has pointy ears. Danni realizes that if a goblin is on the set, her drums must be nearby. As the goblin leaves the video set, Kirsty and Rachel decide to follow using suspicious glitter that reveals the goblin's path. Rachel and Kirsty come up with a plan to lure the goblin away from Danni's drums. This beginning chapter book would be good for early elementary girls wanting something other than Junie B. Jones. The story might have had a stronger ending if the plan had a little more build-up and a little more for Rachel and Kirsty to do. Those having read other books in the "Music Fairies" series can enjoy seeing the goblins' plans foiled. Reviewer: Elizabeth Fronk
