Jerry V. Diller has been teaching for over 30 years and has taught at all levels of higher education. He is currently on the faculty of at The Wright Institute, Berkeley where he teaches course in clinical psychology, cultural diversity and cross-cultural services delivery. He has also taught at the University of Oregon, and Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon, where he was awarded the Innovation of the Year Award for teaching. He has worked with clients from a variety of different ethnic groups in private practice and public mental health settings and is the author of two books on ethnic identity as well as CULTURAL COMPETENCE: A PRIMER FOR EDUCATORS, published by Brooks/Cole, Cengage Learning.
Diller has some 20 years of experience in teaching and consulting in diversity and inter-group relations in both public and private agencies and institutions, and in the clinical setting. The second edition of his text incorporates updated statistical demographics from the 2000 U.S. Census for the communities of color. The text also features expanded coverage on the development of self-esteem in children of color, models of racial identity development, and revision of the introductory culture-specific material in the chapters on Latino/a, Native American, African American, and Asian American clients.
