Jerry V. Diller has been teaching for over 30 years at all levels of higher education. He has been on the faculty of at The Wright Institute, University of California at Berkeley, University of Oregon, and Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon. He was awarded the "Innovation of the Year Award" for teaching at Lane Community College. In his private practice he has been a partner in Multicultural Associates, a consulting and training organization focusing on issues of cultural diversity and social justice.

Jean Moule is currently Assistant Professor of Early Childhood and Adult Education and the "Immersion" Program Coordinator at Oregon State University. Jean began her higher education journey with a major in Art and a minor in Psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. She received a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Oregon and her doctorate from Oregon State University with a dissertation titled "My Journey with Preservice Teachers: Reflecting on Teacher Characteristics that Bridge Multicultural Education Theory and Classroom Practice."

Writing in an accessible style, Diller (The Wright Institute) and Moule (Oregon State University) look at how social and psychological factors come together to shape a teacher's ability to work with students of different cultures. Interviews with educators shed light on working with different ethnic and racial groups. The book can be used as a primary text for multicultural issues and cultural diversity courses in education, as well as for student services programs in community college through graduate programs.
