Purpose:The purpose is to bring the topic of critical thinking into the real world and provide concrete activities and examples of how to develop, hone, and evaluate critical thinking of self and others.
Audience:According to the authors, this book is intended for clinicians and educators in various practice and academic settings, and although written from a nursing perspective, appropriate for healthcare professionals in other disciplines.

The first five chapters identify the who, what, when, where, why, and how of critical thinking. The next five chapters relate critical thinking to five healthcare competencies: patient-centered care, work in interdisciplinary teams, evidenced-based practice, using informatics, and quality improvement.
