Crafts That Celebrate Black History »

Black history month is observed in homes and schools during the month of February, but the achievements of black Americans are with us every day of the year. These hands-on projects celebrate the artists, writers, inventors, and social reformers (and even an explorer and an athlete) who have been part of that distinguished history. The crafts range from a Talking Frederick Douglass Puppet to a Running Jesse Owens Figure. There is a Harriet Tubman Route-to-Freedom Maze and a Granville T. Woods Invention Puzzle. Beginning chronologically with Benjamin Banneker and ending with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., each of the crafts is accompanied by a brief biography and picture of the famous black American.
