Even the introduction is a bit spooky in this quickly read book, aptly titled Collection. According to the author, these are stories she found, almost written as if by a ghost, that she chose to invest the time and work to bring to life.
The first story, The Lesson, is perhaps the most striking. On a dismal night, a lone vampire encounters the first of his kind that he has not shunned. The elder is waiting for morning, waiting for a new life, but it is the younger who truly finds one. Second is the story of a girl with a healing gift, The Gift of Hope, exploring the value of life and the depth of love in sacrifice. These are the most powerful of the collection. Two Story Haunting evokes the feel of a campfire ghost story, while The Boardroom has a sense akin to that of a modern slasher movie. The final entry, Fly is My Soup is evocative of a classic Edgar Allen Poe tale, finding horror in the mundane, similiar to Stephen King's style.
Ghosts and vampires are not the most frightening things in the world. Death is what adds a dimension of death to life. What binds all fears together whether commonplace or fantastic, is the scarlet thread of death.
