A veteran coach at the collegiate, high school, and club levels, Kus is best known for her remarkable 23-year coaching tenure at Sweet Home High School in Amherst, New York, where she compiled a record of 794-29 with teams that Volleyball Magazine called “the best prep program ever in the history of the sport.” Kus coached her teams to a National Federation of State High Schools record of 292 consecutive wins (1978-1987), six consecutive state titles (1990-1995), and a number one national ranking by USA Today (1991). Kus was named the National Women's Sports Foundation Coach of the Year in 1983 and National Federation Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1987, and she was inducted into the National Volleyball Hall of Fame in 1996.
Kus is a 1970 graduate of the University of Akron and a graduate of the University of Buffalo, having earned a master's degree in health and physical education in 1974. She is the founder and coordinator of the nationally renowned Cheetah Junior Olympic Development Program and is a USA Volleyball National Coaching Accreditation Program clinician (CADRE).
When not coaching, teaching, or speaking at clinics about volleyball, Kus enjoys traveling, water sports, and shopping. She and her husband, Larry, live near Buffalo, New York.
In Coaching Volleyball Successfully, Sally Kus presents the formula she used to build and sustain the most successful high school volleyball program ever. From establishing a philosophy and planning productive practices to game-time decision making and player evaluation, this book will help you coach your team to championship-level performances season after season.
Kus compiled an amazing 794-29 record at the high school level, prompting Volleyball Magazine to call her program “the best ever in the history of the sport.” Coaching Volleyball Successfully is the first publication of Kus' winning blueprint.
