A veteran coach at the collegiate, high school, and club levels, Kus is best known for her remarkable 23-year coaching tenure at Sweet Home High School in Amherst, New York, where she compiled a record of 794-29 with teams that Volleyball Magazine called “the best prep program ever in the history of the sport.” Kus coached her teams to a National Federation of State High Schools record of 292 consecutive wins (1978-1987), six consecutive state titles (1990-1995), and a number one national ranking by USA Today (1991). Kus was named the National Women's Sports Foundation Coach of the Year in 1983 and National Federation Volleyball Coach of the Year in 1987, and she was inducted into the National Volleyball Hall of Fame in 1996.

Kus is a 1970 graduate of the University of Akron and a graduate of the University of Buffalo, having earned a master's degree in health and physical education in 1974.
